This project was developed during my time at BOCCI, exploring how sophisticated control systems could be seamlessly integrated into beautifully crafted objects that complement contemporary living spaces. The challenge was to create a universal IoT controller that embodied BOCCI's design philosophy of combining advanced technology with natural materials while developing an interaction paradigm beyond conventional app-based device control.
I developed a spherical controller crafted from wood or stone, embedding capacitive sensors throughout its surface with neural network processing to recognize subtle hand gestures and touch patterns. The organic materials deliberately conceal the sophisticated technology within, creating an almost archaeological interaction where users experiment to unlock the device's capabilities through discovery-based learning rather than obvious visual cues.
This project required advancing my skills in capacitive sensing design, neural network training, and embedded systems integration while meeting BOCCI's exacting standards for technical performance and aesthetic refinement. The resulting universal controller demonstrates how thoughtful material choices and interaction design can create technology that feels both ancient and futuristic—requiring users to develop mastery over time.
